MyEtherWallet MEW App: Beginner’s Guide To The Mobile Wallet App

MyEtherWallet is among the most popular and veteran wallets for storing ETH and ERC-20 tokens, which are Ethereum blockchain-based. Besides the well-known web wallet, MyEther had recently launched a mobile app, available for both Android and iOS devices.

MyEtherWallet or MEW Wallet app allows users to buy and send cryptocurrencies quickly and on-the-go. Users can get the app on the Apple AppStore, Google Play, or Samsung’s Galaxy Store, create their wallet, and buy Ethereum (ETH) using the new built-in exchange. MEW wallet also allows its users to buy ETH using a debit or bank card.

How To Create a New MEW Wallet App Account?

First things first, if you are an Apple user, you need to download the MEW Wallet app from the AppStore and install it on your device.

*Note: The application is available for Android, as mentioned above, and the interface is almost identical. For this guide, we’ve used an iOS device.

From there, you will be creating your wallet, which is a rapid and easy task. As soon as you open the app, you should click on the “create a free wallet” tab and choose a secure PIN. You can also use Face ID or set up print unlocking, depending on your device.

The platform will then automatically create your wallet and get you to the dashboard, which looks like this:

It’s pretty straightforward and easy to use. The first thing you will notice is the notification right below the Receive and Buy Ether options, prompting you to back up the seed of your wallet.

Seed Back-up

Important: This is a must-have step in crypto security.

Your seed, or 24 words, represent your private key. Without it, you may lose access to your funds. The back-up process will expose the list of 24 words.

  • Make sure to write these words down, by order, on a piece of paper (never store them online or on your PC or smartphone).
  • It’s recommended to have a copy, which will be stored away in a secured location.
  • MEW Wallet won’t be able to recover this phrase or your wallet, so if you lose it and you lose your device, you won’t be able to access your funds without the private key phrase.

Which Tokens Does MEW App Support?

MyEtherWallet supports all ERC-20 tokens. While there are countless numbers of them, some of the most popular ones include:

  • Ethereum (ETH)
  • Basic Attention Token (BAT)
  • Cardano (ADA)
  • Chainlink (LINK)
  • Tether (USDT)
  • DAI
  • USDC

How To Send ETH Or Other ERC-20 Tokens?

Sending ETH or any other ERC-20 tokens through the MEW wallet app is very easy. Once you go to your main account, on the bottom, you will see the option to “send” ETH. Tapping it will get you to the following screen:

As you can see, all you have to do is input the receiver’s address or scan the QR code and select the transaction fee.

Unlike the more complicated web wallet, here there are three options for you to choose from – economy, regular, or fast transaction. The quicker you want the ETH to be sent, the more expensive it is, but still cheap compared to ordinary ways of funds’ transmission.

How to Receive ETH?

This is also fairly easy. As soon as you tap on your main account, on the bottom, you will also see a “receive” button. Tap on it, and this is what you should see:

You can either copy the address or the QR code and share it with whoever will be sending you the funds.

App and Web: How To Access MEW Web Wallet?

MEW has enabled a really nice feature that establishes an encrypted connection between your phone and your laptop/tablet. If you want to access your wallet from a web browser, you need to visit the official website and click on the “access my wallet” tab on the homepage.

From here, you’d have to click on the MEWconnect option and scan the QR code from your MEW Wallet app on your phone, using the small camera icon on the top right of your screen.

As soon as you do this, you will be taken to your dashboard automatically, and you can navigate the wallet from your laptop’s browser.

How To Buy ETH on MEW Wallet App?

Once you have the wallet set up, it’s time to buy some ETH. The process is quick and easy. By clicking on the “Buy Ether” button, you will see the following screen:

There are a few preset options, but you can also choose the exact amount you want to buy up to $20,000.

Note that US-based users will also be able to use Apple Pay here. By clicking on the “Buy now” button, you’d be taken to a procedure where you have to enter your payment details, and your transaction will be carried out. It’s as easy as that.

Conclusion

MyEtherWallet’s team has done a great job creating the mobile application. It’s quick and straightforward to install, and the interface is incredibly friendly. The app is also very intuitive, and connecting it to your laptop is also frictionless.

Being one of the most renowned ERC-20 wallets, this should allow more users to access cryptocurrencies in a secure and convenient way without having to go through burdensome software.
