The Ethereum Foundation has officially introduced the Ethereum Execution Layer Specification (EELS) after over a year of development. EELS is a Python reference implementation of the crucial components of an Ethereum execution client, with a focus on readability and transparency. This new system allows for the filling and execution of state tests, as well as being able to follow mainnet1 and prototype new EIPs. This new development is expected to greatly improve the Ethereum ecosystem and could potentially lead to new innovations in the field.
