Fortnite X: Rumors Tease an Epic It Chapter Two Crossover

Fresh off of a collaboration with Netflix’s Stranger Things earlier this summer, Epic Games’ battle royale game Fortnite might be slated for a crossover with Stephen King’s It, according to new rumors.

Data Miners Discover Creepy It-Inspired Assets

The 250 million-strong Fortnite community is no stranger to data mining the game’s files, especially following updates, for hints about what Epic Games plans to incorporate into the game – from skins and weapons to balance tweaks and map changes.

Upon scouring the most recent iteration of the Fortnite code, miners uncovered a nine-second audio file named Illinois_Laugh_01-04 containing a cluster of demonic, guttural laughs right at home in King’s twisted universe.

Further Fortnite mining reveals an asset called ”CreepyBalloon,” which once again mimics the It Chapter Two aesthetic. Indeed, Pennywise, a clown who is the physical embodiment of the It creature, uses balloons to lure young victims.

Fortnite X Meets It Chapter Two?

At first glance, the link may appear tenuous, and the associations somewhat of a stretch, especially as Halloween is but a few months away and Epic Games may simply be putting in the groundwork for a special themed Fortnite event.

But, if we consider that the It Chapter Two movie, a sequel to the 2017 film based on Stephen King’s horror novel of the same, releases on Sep. 6, the similarities venture beyond coincidental.

With past collaborations with big-budget Hollywood franchises such as Avengers: Endgame under its belt, Epic Games is known to stretch its networking muscle to secure the highest caliber of promotional crossovers for Fortnite, a category which It Chapter Two falls into with ease.

Barring the absence of official confirmation from Epic Games that the crossover is indeed real, players are already chomping at the bit to load up a Pennywise skin and board Fortnite’s Battle Bus.
