J.K. Rowling Will Probably Never Tweet About Bitcoin Again

The author of the beloved Harry Potter books, J.K. Rowling, recently asked crypto Twitter to explain Bitcoin to her. Needless to say, hundreds of leading community members answered, including some of the most influential cryptocurrency proponents like Changpeng Zhao, Vitalik Buterin, and even Elon Musk.

However, the renowned author had her fair share of informational inflow as she vowed never to be “flippant about Bitcoin on Twitter.”

J.K. Rowling Had Enough of Bitcoin

As CryptoPotato reported on Friday, J.K. Rowling asked Twitter to explain Bitcoin to her. It appears that far too many people answered her calling as today she said that she’s learned to “never be flippant about Bitcoin on Twitter.”

Harry Potter and The Bitcoin – maybe it will never happen.

It’s worth noting, though, that Rowling had her fair share of fun while at it. Today, the famous writer joked that she’s “not joining the Bitcoin community. It should be perfectly obvious by now that I’ve been trolling Bitcoin in the hope of boosting my significant Ethereum holdings.”

Nevertheless, Rowling also said that it all started as a joke and that she’s now constantly seeing people “getting angry” she doesn’t own Bitcoin. That’s perhaps to be expected, as the entire community was seemingly engaged by the fact that Harry Potter’s author tweeted of Bitcoin.

In any case, she also brought a serious concern – people impersonating her on Twitter. Indeed, the number of fake profiles with her picture and name on it got out of hand, so much so that the CEO of Coinbase, Brian Armstrong, mistakenly answered to one without realizing that it wasn’t Rowling’s official Twitter account.

The Good and The Bad

Indeed, fake Twitter profiles tend to jump as soon as someone popular tweets something of relevance to the field. Just today, CryptoPotato reported that the names of Chamath Palihapitiya and the current owner of the Los Angeles Clippers, Steve Ballmer, have been used in a fake Bitcoin giveaway on YouTube.

On the flip side, there’s publicity. J.K. Rowling has a following of 14.6 million people on Twitter, and there’s a high chance that her recent mention of Bitcoin got in front of a good part of that.

Furthermore, the variety of answers further demonstrated the decentralized nature of the cryptocurrency. Should Rowling had been interested in the services of a bank, for instance, she probably would have received a coordinated PR brochure from someone at the bank.

With Bitcoin, however, it’s probably safe to say that she got the whole picture. The answers demonstrated the pros and cons of the cryptocurrency, and she’s left with the full painting in front of her.
