Retro Fantasy And Revolution In Card Games: What Is Expected For P2E In 2022

Why are collectible card games gaining popularity?

Do you remember how many hours you spent playing Heroes of Might and Magic? If you missed the golden age of the 90s’ fantasy games, perhaps you played Gwent or shuffled decks in the Game of Thrones card game.

And even if you are not a big fan of card games, you have definitely heard about Hearthstone.

Anyhow, collectible card games (CCG) have their own large and devoted community. CCG genre is over 100 years old, and it started with collectible baseball cards in the beginning of the twentieth century.

The genre came through a revolution in 1997 when the first online CCG ChronX and Sanctum got released.

Since then, the DCCG (Digital Collectible Card Game) genre has been growing year after year without losing any popularity. Today, according to the report, the market of collectible

card games equals almost $13 billion and will grow at a yearly rate of 16.5% during the next years. According to the analysts, the market will achieve a volume of $36 billion by 2028.

Interest in DCCG is increasing because of the rapid development of the play-to-earn (P2E) games sector. The market capitalization of P2E games is now over $20 billion.

Alexis Ohanian, the co-founder of Reddit, believes that in 5 years, 90% share of the video game market will be held by P2E games.

It should be noted that a large part of the P2E market is occupied by CBG (Card Blockchain Games). For example, Axie Infinity occupies

more than 20% of the market. Combining these two driving forces – blockchain technology and the 90s’ fantasy nostalgia – a team of three devoted fantasy fans releases the BoarWar collectible card game built on the Ethereum blockchain.

From the Middle Ages to the 90s: What do we know about BoarWar?

BoarWar is a collectible card game made according to the best traditions of the fantasy genre, where players can fight against each other, invade other players’ lands, and create their own dynasties.

With its colorful design and clever battle system, BoarWar is as addictive as the best strategy games of the 90s’.

The gameplay is based on the exploration of Aurora Boarealis, the fictional universe where BoarWar is set as well as quests and PvP battles.

The game’s combat base is 8,000 original playable characters, all of them are unique boar warriors that will be released as NFTs and written on the Ethereum blockchain in April 2022.

The BoarWar NFT collection brings together 150 elements from 14 categories such as weaponry, helmets, armor, tusks, etc. to create battle units for the actual game.

In June 2022, the team will release additional playing cards known as Boarette NFTs. Boarette NFTs is a collection of female boars that will allow a user to create new offspring – playable NFT characters that can also be used in a battle.

All boars are equal, but some boars are more equal than others, that’s why the game includes 4 different character classes: elite, high, middle, and low class.

Players who own the elite class characters will get a piece of land in a form of NFT, where they can build an estate, that will generate some income on a regular basis. Players can also make a profit by completing quests and winning battles against each other.

The cost of one Boar NFT will start at 0.04 ETH, which is cheaper than the average price for new collections built on Ethereum. Pre-sale tokens can be bought for 0.03 ETH with a 25% discount.

Middle Ages tokenomics

The economic system of BoarWar will resemble the real economy of the Middle Ages. In order to ensure the operation of the BoarWar metaverse, two native tokens will be released: ACORN and TRUFFLE.

The first one will be used for in-game activities – this is the currency that the user earns in the game. It can be instantly converted into Ethereum or Bitcoin when it is needed. At the same time, the governance TRUFFLE token will be distributed among players and investors.

TRUFFLE is meant to help the team reach their ultimate goal – to make the game fully decentralized in terms of governance and development.

At the beginning of 2023, the first round of the closed token sale will take place with an initial price of 0.10$. In 2023 and 2024 there will be 4 additional rounds of closed sales for partners, investors, and the most active members of the community.

12% of the TRUFFLE token’s total supply will be sold at the public sale with the release date yet to be announced.

No boars were harmed

The project team is concerned about the issue of sustainable development and is going to help those who are not able to protect themselves.

For this reason, 5% of the NFT collection’s sales profit goes to the funds whose main mission is to protect wildlife.

The team has selected two funds to which the donations will be made: WWF and SAVEME. Let’s hunt only NFT boars and respect wildlife is the declaration with which the BoarWar creators are launching their project.

Community reaction

The game is already under development and the public token sale is scheduled for April. However, there are already more than 5,000 members on the project’s Discord server and almost 10,000 followers on Twitter. This is just the beginning of BoarWar’s long journey, with ambitious goals already set all the way until 2028 the BoarWar team clearly aims at becoming the new industry standard for P2E games.
