A well-known press release distribution service has published a bit which says that Satoshi Nakamoto, Bitcoin’s creator, will reveal his identity, as well as other important aspects of his life and career today, August 18th. It appears the release has been submitted by a digital marketing agency and, by the looks of it, it’s nothing but a PR stunt.
Fake News? Satoshi Nakamoto Reveal
According to a press release, Satoshi Nakamoto, the anonymous creator of Bitcoin, is supposed to reveal his identity today, August 18th. The release also reads that he will be disclosing additional information about his life, as well as the reasons behind not moving any of his 980,000 bitcoins.
The press release has been submitted to a well-known distribution service by a digital marketing agency which claims that the reveal will also take place on its website, as well as on one more venue.
Digging a bit deeper, however, shows that this is perhaps nothing but yet another publicity stunt which aims to capitalize on the hype around Bitcoin and the curiosity surrounding its creator.
Yet Another PR Stunt
The marketing agency which submitted the press release claims that Nakamoto will be revealing himself on this website.
Yet, it’s the 18th already and the website doesn’t reveal absolutely anything. The only thing that is there is a subscription form. We went ahead and subscribed and are yet to receive anything from the website itself.
Moreover, digging deeper shows that the website was actually created 3 days ago, according to Web Archives. Furthermore, the domain name itself was registered 10 days ago, on August 8th. The website of the agency, which is also supposed to broadcast the reveal still has no information related to it.
Needless to say, there’s absolutely no evident connection between the marketing agency and Satoshi Nakamoto and, by the looks of it, this whole thing appears to be yet another attempt to gain attention through the curiosity surrounding the anonymity of Satoshi Nakamoto.
